Skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) and nursing homes provide intensive, around-the-clock medical care. In our personal care home, we do not provide around-the-clock medical monitoring. We do, however, provide licensed nursing services and have a 24-hour staff to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all residents.
In addition to our on-staff nurses, medication care managers, and caregivers, we are conveniently located nearby two hospitals: Ocean Springs Hospital and the VA Medical Center-Biloxi. We provide scheduled transportation to doctor’s appointments and have partnerships with occupational, speech, and physical therapists who provide on-site services.
The answer to this question is complex and can be very personal. Sometimes, a senior may be in great health, but is becoming more isolated. The social environment in a senior living community can be very healing. Other times, a senior may have mobility issues that put them at great risk for a fall. The increased attention and monitoring can provide these seniors with the security they need.
In our personal care home in the beautiful Ocean Springs, MS, we offer a wide variety of resources to help you decide if you or your senior loved one is ready to transition into a personal care home. While there are many signs that a loved one may be ready to live in a senior living community, several key questions to consider are:
- Does your loved one seem isolated or lonely?
- Are they forgetting to stay hydrated, and need to be reminded to eat or drink water?
- Are they struggling with personal hygiene, and need help with day-to-day grooming or dressing?
- Have they been recently hospitalized?
- Do they have any unexplained injuries or bruises, indicating that they may have recently fallen?
- Are they forgetting to take their prescription medications?
- Do they seem confused or disoriented?
Whatever the circumstances, weighing the pros and cons of moving into a personal care home can be difficult. We're here to help. Reach out with any questions you may have. Our senior care specialists are more than happy to discuss your options and help you determine a good fit.
Personal care homes for seniors provide supported living services for the elderly. Personal care residents receive help with their day-to-day needs, such as cleaning, meals, bathing, and medication management. They also enjoy a full calendar of community activities that are designed to inspire seniors to make new friends and discover new hobbies.
While personal care homes for seniors provide supervision, support with daily needs, access to medical services, emergency response systems, and a medically trained staff, personal care homes are not designed to support residents who may need around-the-clock medical assistance or nursing. If an elderly resident’s needs become too great, a resident may need to transition from personal care into a skilled nursing facility, where they can receive 24-hour medical attention and supervision. For this reason, while the services provided by our personal care home are very similar to those provided by assisted living facilities, we do not refer to ourselves as an assisted living facility.
We can always provide our residents with scheduled transportation to doctor’s appointments in the Jackson County, Mississippi area. While we do have LPNs on staff, if a resident needs to see a specialist, we can always provide scheduled transportation to the appointment.
Additionally, for resident activities or outings to local attractions, we always provide transportation. In fact, we take frequent trips to downtown Ocean Springs, MS and our residents are big fans of these types of fun urban outings!
